Definition: L-Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (L-PCA), a physiological component of the epidermis, obtained by cyclization of L-glutamic acid.

Mode of action: As a link between energy metabolism (Krebs cycle), the protein pool (precursor of proline and hydroxyproline, amino acids found in collagen) and skin moisturizing (12% of the Natural Moisturizing Factor / NMF), L-PCA improves the assimilation and fixation of its associated mineral (trace elements) or organic (amino acids) ions.
